How to protect plates

In the printing and printing process, the printing plate is affected by physical factors, chemical factors, process conditions and process operations, and the printing plate is protected. This will reduce the printing durability, shorten the service life, and affect the quality of printed products.

When the plates are stored, the operator should pay attention to the following points in order to protect the plate:

1. Anti-oxidation. After the printing is completed, apply a layer of hydrophilic colloid (such as gum arabic) on the plate in a timely manner and keep the plate dry. If there is no protective layer, the plate is directly exposed to the air, the plate is easily oxidized, and the resulting oxide has a lipophilic property, which makes the plate dirty.
2. Anti-friction. When the plates are stored, they should be oriented upwards. If the plates are relatively overlapping, the plate should be facing inwards and the two plates should be separated by a piece of paper to prevent mutual scratches.
3. Anti-photolysis. Must be stored in low light (preferably yellow light). Under intense light such as incandescent light, the photosensitive layer undergoes photolysis.
4. Prevent moisture. The relative humidity of the air will cause electrochemical corrosion of the printing plate, destroying the non-graphic part to change its hydrophilic and oleophobic properties. And the photosensitive film absorbs moisture and will naturally age and reduce sensitivity. The temperature is 20°C2°C and the relative humidity is 60%-65%.
5. Anti-acid and alkali resistant. Most of the commonly used plate bases are zinc or aluminum. They can react with both acids and bases.
6. Horseshoe prints. When taking the version, you must hold it lightly and gently. Do not arbitrarily curl it. Avoid the creation of horseshoe prints, which can cause partial unevenness in the printing plate and damage the graphic text.
In the process of printing, the following points should be noted in the protection of printing plates:
1. Prevent creases, horseshoe marks and scratches.
2. The pad under the printing plate should be flat to avoid uneven pressure.
3. When pulling the plate, all plate clamp screws must be loosened to prevent deformation of the plate. Do not use too much force to prevent the printing plate from tearing.
4. The clamp screws must be tightened to prevent loosening and damage to the printer and plate.

When printing, protecting plates can be done in the following ways:

1. Appropriately control the pH of the wetting fluid. The wetting fluid is too acidic and will destroy the hydrophilic salt layer. The acidity of the fountain solution should be reduced without affecting the stability of the blank.
2. Adjust the pressure of the ink roller, the water roller and the plate cylinder correctly. Too much or too little pressure can easily cause the plate to wear, resulting in poor ink-repellent performance and dirt.
3. Adjust the pressure between the plate cylinder and blanket cylinder properly.
4. Reasonably choose the material and thickness of the lining.
5. Control layout ink volume and water volume.
