Residues can produce PEN resin intermediates

Kobe Steel Works and ExxonMobil Jointly Researched Successful Extraction of PEN from Petroleum Refined Residues
The production process of 2,6-DMN (2,6-dimethylnaphthalene), an intermediate of (polyethylene naphthalate), has solved the technical difficulties and costs in the past in the synthesis and refining of 2,6-DMN. Large, difficult to use in industrial applications.
The new method uses ExxonMobil's zeolite catalyst and pressure crystallization technology from the Kobe Steel Plant. This technology not only solves the technical problems of traditional production methods, but also uses residual oil as a raw material with economical and practical features.
The strength of PEN resin is 1.5 times greater than that of PET resin. At the same time, the heat-resistance temperature of PET resin is 69°C, while the heat-resistance temperature of PEN resin is as high as 113°C, and its air resistance is also 5-7 times higher than that of PET resin. Due to these advantages, PEN resins are widely used in the production of beer bottles, beverage bottles, video tapes, tire cords, electronic components, food packaging, and medical materials.
