The PACK EXPO International 2006, organized by the Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Association of America (PMMI), was held at the McCormick Place in Chicago from October 29th to November 2nd. Today, brand-owned companies are seeking the most advanced film and rigid container technology to extend product shelf life and maintain product freshness. To meet this demand, many new barrier films are unveiled at the show: ClearShield high barrier shrink bags from Alcan Packaging Food Americas. The packaging has won several awards, using innovative co-extrusion technology. The multi-layer film has excellent puncture resistance, transparency, and high barrier properties, and is easy to use for packaging boned meat products. Toray Plastics (America) Inc. recently introduced PC metallized acrylic films. This new type of film has excellent barrier properties, which not only enhances brand image but also reduces packaging costs. Unilever chose the company's Torayfan® PC1 film to package its best-selling Knorr Depot and Lipton drinks; Extremely barrier metallyte films developed by ExxonMobil Chemical. Metallyte 18XM383 film has very good barrier properties in uncoated metallized films, which can protect sensitive products from moisture, oxidation, ultraviolet radiation, and retain the flavor and aroma of the product. The ClearFoil® film from Rollprint® Packaging Products Co., Ltd. is not only transparent but also highly barrier-free and does not contain any metallic material. The new ClearFoil® film is bactericidal, clear and transparent, suitable for oxygen/moisture sensitive products and is mainly used in the medical device market. At the show, the company also exhibited a new type of ClearForm moldable film. The film has excellent toughness, is exceptionally transparent, has a wide range of heat treatment conditions and process windows, and can also save costs; ZIP-PAK introduced a new type of zipper with a peel-and-seal design. The zipper thus designed is easy to open and reseal, and the film before the zipper is laser-cut and perforated to ensure the barrier property. Zip-Pak's best-selling product, Zip-Pak Slider, also has good barrier properties, and its pleated edges under the zipper sliders provide a good seal.

Mechanical upender provides an easy and efficient way to upend metal coils, molds, dies and other heavy and bulky loads. Mechanical upenders, sometimes called coil positioners, rotate steel, aluminum & other non-ferrous coils and other loads through 90 degrees. They are used in a variety of production and maintenance applications.

Mechanical upenders have a 3/4 round-shaped cradle that is placed on four machined steel rollers. An electric-powered gear motor driving a single or dual chain sprocket provides the ability to rotate.
