Asia-Pacific printing peripheral market grew year-on-year in the third quarter

Recently, IDC released the market analysis report for the third quarter of 2016. According to the report, shipments in the global printing peripheral market continued to decline in the third quarter, but shipments in the print peripherals market in Asia Pacific (excluding Japan) showed a year-on-year growth.

According to the IDC report, shipments of the global printing peripherals market in the third quarter of 2016 were 25 million units, down 3% year-on-year. Shipments of commercial inkjet printers in the third quarter were approximately 2.4 million units, down 7.1% year-on-year, with inkjet multifunction printers accounting for 90%. In addition, driven by the growth trend of Print Management Services (MPS), shipments of contract machines in the quarter increased by 6.1% year-on-year.

In the past five consecutive quarters, the laser printing peripherals market in Western Europe continued to be sluggish, but in the third quarter Western Europe increased by 1.9% year-on-year. In addition, the market revenue of laser printing equipment in Western Europe also showed a certain degree of growth during the quarter. IDC believes that many Western European countries have relatively stable prices, which has led to an increase in the revenue of the laser printing equipment market in Western Europe. At the same time, the average selling price (ASPs) of the laser printer market in the third quarter also increased by 1.2%.

Epson has performed strongly in the Asia Pacific (excluding Japan) market, the Western European market and the US market. IDC pointed out that among the top five original manufacturers, Epson is the only company that has experienced business growth, an increase of 12.2%. In addition, HP still maintains its leading position in the global peripheral market, with a market share of 37.9%; Canon ranks behind with 19.6% market share; Brothers ranks fourth with 7.1% market share; Samsung Then ranked fifth with a market share of 3.3%.
